The project team is monitoring mosquito breeding and water quality at four rain garden sites throughout the city:
- 5019 Press Dr. (Gentilly Woods)
- 5302 Wildair Dr. (Filmore)
- 8641 Forshey St. (Hollygrove)
- 1728 Deslonde St. (Lower Ninth Ward)
These rain gardens were constructed on property owned by the New Orleans New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA), which is committed to its role as a steward of vacant properties. These lots are part of a demonstration project that enhances vacant properties by using plants native to Southeast Louisiana in order to beautify neighborhoods and reduce flooding by capturing rainwater onsite.
